Bedding size guide

Most bedding disappointment is a sizing problem, not a quality problem. A comforter that is technically the right size can still be too small for the way you sleep.

The short answer

Size a comforter to the drape you want, not just to the mattress. If two people share the bed, or the mattress is deep, go one size up so the fill falls over both sides instead of being pulled between you.

Pillows follow the bed: Standard or Queen on a twin through queen, King on a king. Sheets follow the mattress plus anything on top of it — check pocket depth against the mattress with its pad or protector.

Comforter sizes

We make comforters in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and, on selected lines, Super Queen and Super King. Super sizes exist for exactly one reason: deep mattresses and sleepers who want a generous overhang.

  • Deep mattresses, toppers and pads eat overhang
  • A larger comforter also sleeps warmer, since less air escapes at the sides

Choosing a comforter size

Pillow sizes

We make Boudoir, Standard, Queen, King and Euro pillows. Standard and Queen cover most sleeping; King suits a king bed or anyone who moves a lot at night. Euro squares are decorative — they sit upright at the back of the bed rather than under your head.

Sheets, duvet covers and depth

Fitted sheets are sized to the mattress, but the number that matters is pocket depth. Measure the mattress and add any pad or protector; a sheet that only just reaches will let go at the corners.

Duvet covers are sized to the comforter, not the mattress. If you sized the comforter up for a better drape, the cover has to follow it up as well.

  • Measure mattress height including the pad or protector
  • Match the duvet cover to the comforter size
  • Pillowcases follow the pillow, so a King pillow needs King cases

Should I buy a king comforter for a queen bed?
Many couples prefer it. A king comforter on a queen bed gives a deep overhang on both sides and stops the fill being tugged toward one sleeper. If you sleep alone, a queen is usually enough.
What is a Super King comforter?
A generously oversized king, made for deep mattresses and for anyone who wants the comforter to fall well down the sides of the bed rather than sit on top of it.
What size pillow fits a queen bed?
Standard or Queen. Queen pillows are slightly longer, which looks fuller across a queen headboard; Standard is the more common choice.
How do I know my sheets will fit a deep mattress?
Measure from the top of the mattress to the bottom of the side panel, then add the height of any pad or protector, and compare that with the fitted sheet's pocket depth.
