How to choose
Four questions settle almost every choice
Start with how you sleep
Side, back or stomach decides the loft of your pillow before anything else does. Tell us the position you wake up in, not the one you fall asleep in.
Then choose the fill
White goose down is the lightest and loftiest for its weight; duck down and 50/50 blends give the same warmth with a little more body. Down alternative suits sensitive sleepers and frequent washing.
Match the shell to the room
Higher thread-count, down-proof cottons feel cooler and crisper; softer sateens feel warmer to the touch. Both are woven tightly enough that nothing works its way out.
Size up for drape
Most comforters look and sleep better one size larger than the mattress, so the fill falls over the sides instead of being pulled between two people.
