Loft by sleep position
Our pillows are made in Soft, Medium and Firm in every line, and the ounces scale with the size: a 20x26 BERNINA 650 runs about 14 oz Soft, 17 oz Medium and 21 oz Firm. The line sets the feel; the fill decides the support.
Which fill, and which line
Higher fill power down holds its loft longer and needs less fluffing, which is why our upper lines feel firmer at the same weight. Lower fill power and blended fills give a softer, more yielding feel and are easy to reshape by hand.
If you are replacing a pillow you liked, tell us which one — matching a feel you already know is faster and more accurate than any chart.
Shape, size and how many
Standard 20x26 suits most beds and most sleepers. 20x30 gives a side sleeper more room to move without leaving the pillow, and 20x36 is for king beds where a pair should span the mattress. 26x26 euro squares are for sitting up and for the back of a made bed, not for sleeping.
Gusseted pillows carry a fabric side wall that holds a consistent height across the whole pillow — good if you sleep on your side and dislike the way a knife-edge pillow thins at the middle. Knife-edge pillows are softer at the perimeter and easier to fold or bunch.
- 20x26 standard: the default for most beds
- 20x30 queen: more room to shift position during the night
- 20x36 king: a pair spans a king mattress
- 26x26 euro: propping and styling, not sleeping
When to replace, and how to make that later
A good down pillow should not need replacing every year. Fold it in half and let go: if it stays folded rather than springing back, the fill is spent. If it springs back but sleeps flat, it usually just needs a hard shake and a few hours of airing.
The one accessory that genuinely extends a pillow's life is a protector. Oils and moisture are what break down fill, not use, so a washable protector under the pillowcase buys years.
